Experience

The CWHM staff of pharmaceutical scientists has expertise spanning each of the critical disciplines required to discover and develop safe and effective drugs:

  • Medicinal chemistry
  • Structure-based drug design
  • Cell and Molecular Biology
  • High throughput screening
  • In vivo disease and biomarker pharmacology
  • In vitro drug metabolism and stability
  • In vivo pharmacokinetics
  • Biomarker development

Pharmacology and other biology related activities of the Center are located at Saint Louis University (SLU), where they are integrated into a world-class biomedical research community. Ready and frequent access to this community provides complementary expertise in numerous biochemical pathway mechanisms which will promote the exchange of information that will drive a shift in culture toward clinical translation.

Synthetic medicinal chemistry and structure-based drug design take place at SLU as well as the newly established Medicinal Chemistry Group at the nearby University of Missouri Saint Louis (UMSL). The Medicinal Chemistry Group is aligned with UMSL’s thriving Department of Chemistry. The UMSL Chemistry Department is recognized for its strengths in synthetic chemistry, making it a natural partner for the CWHM. The Centers at SLU and UMSL will operate in seamless collaboration to achieve mutually agreed portfolio goals.
